Decor
From the polished marble floor and walls to the gleaming chandeliers suspended from an arching, sky-blue tray ceiling, the magnificent lobby of The Pontchartrain promises luxury within. The barrel-vaulted lobby has columns and walls whose simulated marble decoration continues an age-old tradition originally imported into Austria from Italy.
The elevator is adorned with floral decorations hand painted by Elizabeth Hadden. Exquisite canvas murals depicting scenes of Louisiana bayous, birds, and aquatic flowers painted by the noted New Orleans artist, Charles Reinike, grace the walls of the Caribbean Room, Patio Room, and Bayou Bar ... and are considered priceless works of art. In addition, the lobby, corridors and guestrooms are furnished with priceless antiques and art work.
Bayou Bar
Guests can also experience the authentic atmosphere of New Orleans' nightlife at the Bayou Bar, where cocktails and camaraderie combine crescent city-style. Added in 1947, the Bayou bar remains a popular meeting place for local professionals as well as guests. (A favorite hangout for Frank Sinatra and Frankie Laine when they visited New Orleans, the Bayou Bar was also the place where the New Orleans Saints NFL agreement was signed.)

Lafitte's Restaurant
Cafe au lait and beignets in the morning ...
Fried green tomatoes in the afternoon ...
Classic Creole and Cajun specialties in the evening ...
Dining at Lafitte's Restaurant contains all the ingredients to satisfy one's taste for New Orleans' renowned cuisine without ever having to leave the hotel! Our signature dessert, The Mile High Pie, is an exuberant celebration of New Orleans' richly-deserved reputation for fine dining. Its introduction in 1948 made culinary history.
The sunny Lafitte's Restaurant is the chosen breakfast nook for the city's politicians and civic leaders. Decorated in an attractive, cozy French Country design, it is often depicted in novels set in New Orleans as "the" place for breakfast. Lafitte's and the Hotel are also the settings for a portion of author Anne Rice's novel, "The Witching Hour."
